Flats and
Pre-folds are
the diapers that come to mind
when we think of the cloth
diapers our mothers and
grandmothers used. A Flat diaper is a
flat square piece of cloth
that can be folded, twisted,
or rolled to fit your
baby’s body and wetting
patterns. Flat diapers most
always need to be secured with
a diaper pin or Snappi, and
always need a diaper cover
over them. Pre-fold
diapers are similar to Flat
diapers, but are sewn with
varying layers of thickness
(more fabric in the middle wet
zone) rendering a somewhat
‘pre-folded’
diaper. Pre-fold diapers still
need to be folded to fit your
baby’s body, and can be
secured with a diaper pin,
Snappi, or simply by tucking
it inside a snug fitting diaper
cover. Flat and Pre-fold
diapers are extremely
economical and versatile. They
will fit a wide range of body
types and sizes, and you will
therefore need to buy fewer
diapers over the course of
your child’s diapering
years. True Diaper Service
Quality (DSQ) Pre-folds
are extremely durable, and
will last wash after wash,
child after child. Both types
of diapers can also be used as
inserts in pocket
diapers, as doublers to
add absorbency at night time
to your fitted
diapers, or as burp
cloths, and will most likely
make it into your favorite
stash of cleaning supplies one
day.
